I can move a muscle in my ear, and I hear blood and clicking. What this healthy? What is it?
Posted by Barb in Why Your Ear is Clicking on September 29, 2009
It’s almost like flaring your nostrils, but I can do it in my ear canal. When I do it I always hear a swooshing, which I am assuming is the blood in my ear. Sometimes I hear a really loud clicking. When I put my ear up to another persons and move the muscle, they can also hear this clicking!
This is not just a pulse in my ear, it happens when I flex my inner ear.
What is going on!!!
Is this healthy!?
It’s probably your eustacian tube. That channels fluid from your ear down into your throat (why you can hold your breath to pop your ears). The swishing sound is probably just fluid moving in the tubes, which is not abnormal. I can do it at times as well. If you’re not in any pain and can hear fine, I wouldn’t worry.

Posted by Barb in What is Tinnitus? on September 29, 2009
It is probably caused from my sinuses. I still have a slight flu, and just got over a wicked one. So what can I do to get rid of sinus tinnitus.
Im hoping its not caused from playing guitar… Damn… ill need to wear earplugs. Cause every guitarist knows amps sound better when they are louder.
its probably cause your ears are blocked from the flu. should dissapear when the flu’s gone too.
try white noise for sleeping at night in the mean time

Any Ideas On Tinnitus? Remedies or Treatments?
Posted by Barb in Tinnitus Remedies on September 29, 2009
Okay, I’ve done some research and have asked a few people but I want to know if you guys have any advice on this.
Do you know of any ways to keep tinnitus in check?
So far, I know if you drink alcohol, it doesn’t bother you, valium is the same, and I smoke weed.
I have also heard Dramamine works.
So any other ideas?
Please help.
By the way, I’ve asked a doctor friend of mine and he said that mairijuana does help by calming your nerves.
So all you anti-marijuana people, I have a doctor telling me its okay so stop saying it is not.
You do not have a diploma from a recognized medical school.
There is no actual proven fact that marijuana smoke is addictive.
Plus, it is legal for medicinal purposes in many states. So it is not illegal.
You need to find out why you have the tinnitus. You could have a benign tumor in your inner ear canal, it’s called an accoustic neuroma. It can become very bothersome because the ringing get’s so loud and eventually your face starts to feel numb. You just need to have an MRI of your brain. Make sure they order it as a Brain IAC (which means internal auditory canal) so it includes pictures of the area in questions. Don’t go to an open MRI because the picture quality won’t be clear enough to detect these abnormalities.
As for the pot, well, I’m sure it does help, I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but still, you need to get to the answer of why you have the problem in the first place. Good luck.
I know there is no cure, but, does anyone know of any soothing relief for tinnitus?
Posted by Barb in Tinnitus Relief on September 29, 2009
I know there are forms of "white noise", but perhaps there is something esle out there that i don’t know of.
In medicine, tinnitus is usually the ringing of the ears. This can be avoided by staying away from aspirin. Try to use ear plugs.
White noise The adjective "white" is used to describe this type of noise because of the way white light works. White light is light that is made up of all of the different colors (frequencies) of light combined together (a prism or a rainbow separates white light back into its component colors). In the same way, white noise is a combination of all of the different frequencies of sound. You can think of white noise as 20,000 tones all playing at the same time.
Because white noise contains all frequencies, it is frequently used to mask other sounds. If you are in a hotel and voices from the room next-door are leaking into your room, you might turn on a fan to drown out the voices. The fan produces a good approximation of white noise. Why does that work? Why does white noise drown out voices? White noise has a "masking effect."
How do I cure tinnitus?

I have an infernal ringing in my ears. How do I get it to stop? I have already stopped use of headphones, both in-ear and over-ear. I have turned down all the sources of noise that I can, but it still goes on.
Treatment may be quite different in each case of tinnitus. In most cases there is no cure, and treatment is designed to help people manage tinnitus on a day-to-day basis.
Some people find that taking certain medicines can trigger tinnitus. If this is the case, your GP may advise changing medication to stop the tinnitus. Sometimes tinnitus disappears of its own accord, or may only occur in response to an obvious cause such as anxiety or stress.
There is no specific medicine to treat tinnitus, but research continues.
Tinnitus is strongly linked to stress, and sometimes people are prescribed sedatives, tranquillisers, or antidepressants to help lessen the effect that the tinnitus has on their lives. Normally these are more effective if prescribed together with on-going counselling.
Other medicines, such as local anaesthetics, those that interfere with nerve conduction, and anticonvulsants (drugs used to prevent seizures and convulsions), such as carbamazepine, have been tried to treat the symptoms of tinnitus. However, trials have been disappointing. Four randomized clinical trials of carbamazepine and trials of other anticonvulsants have failed to show any benefit.
There are a number of other things that may prove effective in controlling tinnitus:
listening to calming music on personal headphones, especially at bedtime,
white noise generators (tinnitus maskers) may make it less easy to hear the tinnitus,
use of a hearing aid if you have slight hearing loss. Being able to hear sounds you cannot normally hear may help to override the tinnitus noise,
deliberate effort to concentrate on something else and to ignore the tinnitus; and
cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) by a hearing therapist to help people change their response and lower their awareness of tinnitus.
Depression is not uncommon with severe tinnitus, and requires specific treatment such as antidepressant drugs or talking therapies such as counselling or cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
How do I stop my ears from ringing?
Posted by Barb in Stop Ear Ringing on September 29, 2009
I was in a club last night and my ears haven’t stopped ringing yet. I’m pretty new to partying and I never expose myself to other loud noises.
I’m sure I don’t have tinnitus or anything serious.
Does anyone know of any simple home remedies?
Or has anybody had a similar experience. If so, how long did it last?
It will probably stop in a few days. However, repeated exposure to noise in which you experience ringing in your ears afterwards can lead to hearing loss. The ringing in your ears is your body telling you the noise you were in was tooooo loud. Wear ear protection to the clubs, mowing the lawn, target shooting etc. It is not worth it.
Levaquin on day three, still severe pain in throat and ear. Is this normal?
Posted by Barb in Ear Noise Treatments on September 29, 2009
I am taking an antibiotic called Levaquin that began Monday for left throat pain and swelling. Also treating left ear pain. The ear pain has also made the back left side of my head swollen and tender and it is very painful. I took my third pill today. Why does it feel like I am getting worse and why am I still running low-grade fever? In addition, when I swallow my throat makes a clicking noise or popping noise. Why? Any advice or treatment help. This is the most painful thing I have ever had since I was 12 with Strep Throat. Moreover, my doctor did not do a culture.
What was the diagnosis for the neck swelling?
Honestly, if you have NEW swelling, I’d call your doctor on-call or go to the ER. That is very dangerous. Ear infections CAN spread to the brain. I’m not saying it has or that is what you have but swelling in the head is dangerous.
Good luck!!

When To Call a Doctor
Call your health professional immediately if:
Your child has a severe injury to the ear.
Your child has sudden hearing loss, severe pain, drainage from the ear, or dizziness.
Your child seems to be very sick with symptoms such as a high fever and stiff neck.
You notice redness, swelling, or pain behind or around your child’s ear, especially if your child does not move the muscles on that side of his or her face.
Call your health professional if:
You can’t quiet your child who has a severe earache with home treatment over several hours.
Your baby pulls or rubs his or her ear and appears to be in pain (crying, screaming).
Your child’s ear pain increases even with treatment.
Your child has a fever over 102° (38.89°) with other signs of ear infection.
You suspect that your child’s eardrum has burst, or fluid that looks like pus or blood is draining from the ear.
Your child has an object stuck in his or her ear.
Your child with an ear infection continues to have symptoms (fever and pain) after 48 hours of treatment with an antibiotic.
Your child with an ear tube develops an earache or has drainage from his or her ear.
Watchful Waiting
Watchful waiting is when you and your health professional watch symptoms to see if the health problem improves on its own. If it does, no treatment is necessary. If the symptoms don’t get better or get worse, then it’s time to take the next treatment step.
If your child is age 6 months or older and has a mild earache, you might try watchful waiting. Most ear infections get better without antibiotics. However, if your child’s pain doesn’t get better with nonprescription children’s pain reliever (such as acetaminophen) or the symptoms continue after 48 hours, call a health professional.

What can cause tinnitus in young children?
Posted by Barb in About Tinnitus on September 29, 2009
I’ve had what I now recognise to be very mild tinnitus for as long as I can remember, at least since the age of 6. It’s never been a problem and until I started reading about it I wrote it off as normal.
But now I’m wondering where it could have come from. I can’t recall ever being exposed to extreme noise levels. Could it have just come from normal background noise?
It could caused be an ear infection, teething, getting water in their ears or unknown. It’s usually not serious if they aren’t having any other symptoms and usually clears on it’s on.
Why do I hear this clicking sound in my ear everytime I swallow?

One morning i woke up and yawn really loud, all of a sudden i hear a pop in my ear. I went to the doctor and he give me some liquid to put it in ear. Ever since then, whenever I swallow, I would hear a pop or clicking sound in both of my ears. I went to a professional doctor, and he said the clicking sound would go away, but it’s been 8 years now, and I still experience the pop and clicking sound everyday. What is going on in my ear and what should I do?
