is it true that Xanax can be used as a treatment for people with extreme tinnitus?
Posted by Barb in Tinnitus Treatment on March 8, 2010
That depends on a few things. What is causing the tinnitus? How old is the patient? What is the family history? What medications are they on? There are many things to consider.
I, myself, have tinnitus. I have also taken Xanax, but not for tinnitus. I found it a useful medication for what I was taking it for. It’s definitely not for everyone. For people who have addiction problems or the potential, it is not for them.
If the tinnitus is due to neurological problems, Xanax will not help. It may help if the ringing is the cause of extreme stress. It might give relief while the person learns other methods of stress reduction. It’s not a permanent solution.

Has anyone found a cure or successful treatment for tinnitus?

Having tinnitus, also known as ringing in the ears, makes me feel lonely, agitated, sad, and depressed most of the time. I went to a hearing specialist, and I can hear above average with both ears, and he gave me water pills for my ears and that didn’t work. I remember the exact moment that the tinnitus started without my consent, and that started in July 2007. Ever since then, I have been suffering from this tormenting condition. I am also waiting for a prayer to be answered that the tinnitus will stop as it so easily started. Has anyone found a cure or successful treatment for tinnitus?
I too have had tinnitus for over twenty years. It hasn’t let up; I have it 24/7 and I’ve had to learn to ignore it as much as possible. There is nothing yet available that gets rid of it, but there are university studies trying to find a way to grow new hearing cells through stem cell research. Hopefully one day there will be a method to not only end tinnitus, but severe hearing loss as well.

I am searching for a site where I can read about tinnitus treatment.
If my medical terminology knowledge serves me well, I believe that it is ringing in the ears.
There are a number of sites about tinnitus. All you need to do is google it.

It is just scary to stand by and watch my gran battling to cope with the ringing noses in her ears! That isn’t the worst of it though, as she struggles to get her general health is also starting to suffer. It appears that because she is always so irratable and anxious, she doesn’t get to sleep much and always seems to pick up almost every sickness that is doing the rounds. Can this be resulting from her tinnitus? I am looking for a tinnitus treatments for her.
Hi
There are Herbals and Homeopathy that your Grandma can try. But she should also see a doctor to determine the cause of the tinnitus. Please see my other answers on this subject.

what is the best treatment for tinnitus?
Posted by Barb in Tinnitus Treatment on February 18, 2010
The most effective treatment for tinnitus is to eliminate the underlying cause. Because tinnitus can be a symptom of a treatable medical condition, medical or surgical treatment can take place to correct the tinnitus.
Unfortunately, in many cases the cause of tinnitus cannot be identified, or medical or surgical treatment is not the appropriate course of action. In these cases, the tinnitus itself may need to be treated.
Drug therapy, vitamin therapy, biofeedback, hypnosis, electrical stimulation, relaxation therapy, counseling, habituation therapies, and tinnitus maskers are among many forms of management available. Audiologists and otolaryngologists routinely collaborate in identifying the cause and providing treatment. A treatment that is useful and successful for one person may not be appropriate for another.
tinnitus maskers look like hearing aids and produce sounds that "mask," or cover up, the tinnitus. The masking sound acts as a distractor and is usually more tolerable than the tinnitus. It is an external noise and some people find it preferable to the sound in their heads. The characteristics of the tinnitus (pitch, loudness, location, etc.) that you described for the audiologist determine what kind of masking noise might bring relief. If you have a hearing loss as well as tinnitus, the masker and the hearing aid may operate together as one instrument. Like all other treatments for tinnitus, maskers are useful for some, but not all, people. As with a hearing aid, a careful evaluation by an audiologist will help decide if a tinnitus masker will help you.

I have "Tinnitus" – a ringing in the ear…Does anyone out there know of a cure… or a very good treatment

I read all the previous answers and agree with most that it may be incurable as it is the sign of hearing damage usually due to loud noises (music, concerts, bands, and often in men, the use of many power tools.) I think it is important that you use ear protection even when mowing the lawn to help prevent further problems. Those squeezable earplugs are good.
I have used ear protection for years even at concerts. I discretely put some silicon earplugs in and loosen them just enough to hear and enjoy the music but not leave with my ears ringing. I hope they do find a cure for tinnitus as so many people suffer from it and the upcoming generation likes everything even louder, not realizing the consequences.
Tinnitus cure can someone advise me regarding something that actually works.?

It is saddening because I have to stand by and witness my granny battling with the ringing noses in her ears! The tinnitus is not the worst though, because she battles to sleep her overall health seems to be getting worse. It appears to me that because she is always so irratable and up tight, she can’t sleep much and nowdays seems to pick up every germ that is doing the rounds. Is this be related to the tinnitus? I am searching for a tinnitus treatment right now.
It’s very interesting that there are about four or five of you asking the exact same question give or take a word or two.
